Our Experience in Education

Wolverhampton Inter-Faith Group was founded in 1974, “to provide education of all forms, aimed specifically at the production of knowledge and understanding of the beliefs and practice of religious faiths, with the purpose of the enhancement of harmony within the Borough (now City) of Wolverhampton.”

We are now in our 27th. year, with a wealth of experience in spreading information on differing faiths and communities; encouraging schools and community groups to join in festivals, take part in social and cultural events, and visit each other’s places of worship.

With some 35 faith communities worshipping in the city, Wolverhampton is an ideal place to learn about faith and religion in a multi-ethnic society.

Each year many schools make return visits to the various Churches, Temples, Gurdwaras and Mosques, showing a new generation of children how their neighbours worship.

Due to the interest shown by schools and colleges from outside Wolverhampton, we decided to extend this service to all schools and groups within a day’s travelling distance.

As a result, we are delighted to have had visitors from Redditch, Bromsgrove, Tamworth, Ross-on-Wye, Kidderminster and Powys, and to have received enquiries from Staffordshire, Shropshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Escorted Visits to Places of Worship

We are able to offer Schools, Colleges, and other Interested Groups, escorted visits to various Places of Worship, including:
-    Hindu Temples
-    Sikh Gurdwaras
-    Mosques
-    Buddhist Vihara
-    Christian Churches (various denominations ),

together with appropriate information packs (from September 2001) and worksheets.

FEES
£1.00 per person/child for each place of worship. (We would like to be able to offer our experience and expertise for free, but we have to pay our bills!)

DRESS
There are normally no special dress requirements, although female visitors should be modestly attired. Since most places of worship will ask visitors to remove their shoes and cover their heads as a mark of respect, some form of head covering should be brought.

FOOD
If visitors are bringing packed lunches to consume within the grounds of a place of worship, they are asked to ensure that they contain non-meat fillings. Fruit is normally available for visitors to a Hindu Temple, and most Sikh Gurdwaras will have free food available (Langar) which visitors can sample.

PARKING is available at most places of worship.

If you are interested in booking a visit, or simply require further information, please contact The Administration Officer, Wolverhampton Inter-faith Group.
